Mankind has been sent in this world for a test. Testis to be patient .
Brothers and Sisters! Question arises why mankind has to be patient?
Brothers and Sisters! To answer the question why mankind has to be patient let us first see what it means to be patient.
Brothers and Sisters! Technically to be patient means:
-
-
when a person comes across anything which offends him then he should hold himself and try to ignore it
-
when a person is facing hardships in dealing with an assignment then he should be determined and courageous to accomplish the assignment
-
when a person is hungry and he has no resources to feed himself then he should be patient and bear with it until the time when the resources are available
-
when a person is in need of something but he is not in a position to get it then he ought to be patient
-
when there is a command of a superior to do a job but it does not appeal to him then he ought to comply with the command amicably
Brothers and Sisters! When Allah created mankind He (SWT) inflicted Naffas (Psyche) in his Fitrat (disposition) which will inspire him to satisfy Sensual Appetite.
Brothers and Sisters! It is natural phenomenon that every moment of life wishes and desires emerge in heart and mind plans to think of the ways how to fulfill the wishes and desires.
Brothers and Sisters! At the time wishes and desire emerge the law of nature comes in force. When Naffas (Psyche) inspires to satisfy Sensual Appetite by illicit means then the other force i.e. Guidance of Allah prohibits him. For example: it is natural phenomenon that when man and woman come across each other their sexual urges arouse and Naffas will be satisfied if they will keep looking at each other. But as soon as the sexual urge emerges the Guidance of Allah comes along and tells him to lower his and her gaze and pass each other. Brothers and Sisters! If one has lowered his gaze and passed by then he will considered as patient and there is reward to be patient.
Brothers and Sisters! To understand and appreciate the concept of being patient let us look at the context and substance of Hadith:
-
Allah had created Hell and asked Angel Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBIH) to go and look at the Hell and express his views.
-
Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBUH) went to see Hell and saw that there is burning fire in it. He came back and expressed his views that one will do anything to save himself from the Fires of Hell.
-
Allah covered Hell with wishes and desires and asked Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBUH) that now go and see the Hell.
-
Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBUH) went again to see the Hell. He came back and expressed his views that there is little hope that anyone can save himself from Fire of Hell.
-
Allah had created Paradise. Allah asked Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBUH) to go and see the Paradise.
-
Hazrat Gibra’iel (PBUH) went to see the Paradise again and came back and expressed his views that there is little hope that anyone will get a place in Paradise.
Brothers and Sisters! In short, the criteria was established that to save one from the Fires of Hell and secure a place in Paradise one has to be patient i.e. follow the Guidance of Allah in day to day life.
Brothers and Sisters! Under the light of Qur’an and Hadith one can become Al Muttaqi (pious) if he follows the Guidance of Allah i.e. controls his Naffas (Psyche) and expend his day to day life in accordance with Guidance of Allah and Teachings of Anbiyya e Karam. This is why Allah has revealed in the Qur’an:
Translation Surah Al Baqrah Ayat no. 183
Ay Eman Wallo (O you who believe)! Observing As – Soam (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al – Muttaqun (the pious)
Brothers and Sisters! Normally by observing Soam (fasting) is understood not to eat from dawn till sunset . Now let us see what the requirements of observing in month of Ramadan are.
-
-
speak truth do not lie
-
look for the Halal (allowed) Bounties of Allah and refrain from Haram (disallowed)
-
-
do not mate with your wife from dawn to sunset
-
honour your right and do not infringe the rights of other people
-
-
-
-
etc.
Brothers and Sisters! Soam to be acceptable above are the requirements which one has to observe. If any of the requirements is not observed then the observing Soam becomes meaningless and it defeats the object of being observing Soam i.e. becoming Al Muttaqun (pious).
Brothers and Sisters! The question may emerge in mind that is it that only the above requirements are to be observed in month of Ramadan and for rest of the year on does not have to observe?
Brothers and Sisters! Not at all! In fact the month of Ramadan is training for the rest of the year. As one will observe strictly the above requirements in the month of Ramadan it will help him to be patient whenever he comes across hardships in rest of the year. For example:
-
When one will have little resources to feed himself then as he refrained himself from eating and drinking in month of Ramadan i.e. he was patient in spite of food available, he will bear the hunger and shall not complain.
-
When he will be in a state where speaking truth can harm him and he can get away by lying but the practice of speaking truth under any circumstances in month of Ramadan will help him to speak truth.
-
When he will have sexual urge but he is away from home it will help him to control his sexual urge as he had to control in month of Ramadan while he was near his wife.
-
When he will come across a person who is in need of his help financially or otherwise he will immediately come to his rescue likewise he used to help people in need in month of Ramadan.
-
He will be performing Salat five times a day strictly. This will help him to continue to perform Salat other than month of Ramadan.
-
In month of Ramadan he was repenting and begging forgiveness of Allah. So he will keep repenting and begging forgiveness of Allah every moment of his life.
Brothers and Sisters! In short, one can save himself from Fire of Hell and earn a place in Paradise if he becomes Al Muttaqi (pious). One can become Al Muttaqi only if he becomes patient i.e. controls his Naffas (Psyche) and be grateful to Allah for all the amenities of life he has been provided.
CONCLUSION
Brothers and Sisters! This worldly life is short. There is no ratio between the life of this world and the life hereafter. Why? The world has to end. So it has a limited life span. Life hereafter is forever i.e. there is no limit of life span. The ratio cannot be established, because ratio can be established only when two things have limitation. Limit has no ratio with limitless.
Brothers and Sisters! Let us try to understand the concept of life hereafter forever from another angle.
Brothers and Sisters! In this world there is past, present and future. Every moment which was present turns into past the next moment. Moreover, in every present moment one thinks of the future. But life hereafter is forever, so it is present only and there is no past and future.
Brothers and Sisters! Do you not think that it is worthwhile to be patient in this world for little time and earn a place in Paradise and enjoy Bounties of Allah which no eyehas seen, no earhas heard and no mindcan imagine.
May Allah be with You
Wass’a’lam
